Went offshore yesterday- the seas were as good as it gets-flat calm. The fish were not biting liked everyone had hoped and I think the entire fleet had a pretty slow day. We did break out the butterfly jigs and catch a wide variety of fish. Chris Taylor put it on his dad an I- he jigged up Greater Amberjack, Vermillion Snappers, king mackerel, Alamco Jacks, banded rudderfish, and sharks...
We did catch a few grouper(scamps) - but they all bit live bait. Headed out to the DEEP(200') and lost a really big grouper that got into the rocks. We did stop on a rock that was covered with banded rudderfish and we caught them(30+) on everything we had in the boat- jigs, live bait, and cut bait.
Had a couple of WINDY inshore trips last week as well - it was really slow- not sure where the reds have moved to but they have disappeared for now- with the water warming up we did however catch a few small redfish- and one flounder.
The weather looks like it's going to calm down finally!!! That was the longest stretch of 25+ mph winds I can remember and I hope it's done for a while... The Bonita and Spanish Macks should start showing up anyday now and they are great targets for fly rodding as well as sight casting with light spinning gear.
