Had Allan Martin and his son Jonathan aboard for a full day of redfishing and whatever else was biting. Jonathan (JT) had flown all of the way from Wichita Kansas to fish! These guys are die hard bass fisherman and really wanted to catch redfish on artificial baits.
We started off with a few boils(reds and trout) on top water but no takers. Then switched gears and went to jerk baits and spinners. It was pretty slow with an incoming tide- not my favorite time to fish! Finally JT hits a really nice red. It was his first redfish and a nice upper slot fish.
After lunch the tide finally started out and the fishing improved. Allan caught a few small reds and JT slammed another big fish around the 27" range. We fished bait for a little while and Allan caught a nice speck- JT had a pretty good flounder on but got off at the boat.
Th wind was dead calm and the tide was dead low so we checked for some tailer's... Second stop we found one who jumped on JT's top water plug- unfortunately he came unbuttoned. Not a problem we had a heard of slobs coming down the bank in 8-12" of water. Picked off two of these guys- nice fish 25-30"...Sight fishing top water- to big redfish-that's what Allan and JT came for and I'm glad it all went down- perfect ending to the day!
It was so shallow I had to trolling motor out of the creek and JT wacked another nice fish on top water on the way out! Allan had fished all over the world and told me -It was as exciting as fishing gets!!! I'll agreed to that- what a evening!
J.T.'s first Redfish!
Sunset Topwater- A nice ending to the day
