Had a split / full day with Stewart Thompson.  We decided to take his two girls(Grace 7 and Whitney 11) in the afternoon to try and catch some redfish or whatever else we could find willing to bite.  Low tide was at 4:30 am and I wanted a livewell full of shrimp so the girls could have some instant action.  So I headed out early to load up- and after a couple of hours I headed back to the marina.  Went back to check on the bait and mud had clogged my pump!  All bait was toast!  By then the tide was too high to get more so I had to buy 6 dozen live shrimp!  Not a good start to the day!

Stewart, the girls and I headed out right after lunch and we had a nice catch with 7 reds and lost two big reds (over 8 pounds) at the boat!  The girls did an excellent job- casting, hooking at fighting the fish.  Grace even help bait a few hooks!  I have had some of the best kids aboard this year and these two where right up there.

We dropped the girls off and headed tarpon fishing.  Stewart had asked me the day before what kind of chance we had of catching a tarpon- I laughed and todl him we had a excellent chance of "hooking one" actually getting one to the boat was a different story.  Since the catch ratio is about 1:10 hookups.

We started with a few big sharks - the third was a big blacktip.  Just then Stewart saw a tarpon roll and he was headed our way.  Sure enough when he hit the chum slick he hit the top live bait.  One blistering run and one jump later he came off of the 9/0 circle hook!

Unfortunately I forgot my camera so didn't get any shots- but hopefully I an get these guys to go again soon!

How nice to spend an evening watching the sun go down and waiting for a 100 pound freight train to hit- now that's the way to end a day.
