Had Mike Clark and family aboard- they were staying in Myrtle Beach and made the early morning drive up to fish a 1/2 day in the morning. We caught some live pogies and headed out - it was a bumpy ride but we got offshore about 7 miles. Put the lines and hooked a king mackerel in the first 5 minutes. Katie (who had never caught a fish of any kind) was on the rod and did a great job but the fish got off right at the boat. Fished for another hour without a bite and then a nice mahi charged the short bait and took off. Katie go this one to the boat and in the cooler for some fresh fish dinners for the family! Good job- we left there and headed to some shrimp boats and everyone got their turn on some big sharks. If you have never caught one of these fish behind a shrimp boat you need to give it a try it's a lot of fun.
The afternoon Janie and Jerry Beekman from Ohio jumped on - by then the wind had started to blow hard from the SW and we could not make it back offshore- we did make it back to the shrimp boats and hooked 4 sharks and got one in the boat for some pictures and then a quick release. It was so bumpy we headed in and had fun with the bluefish on the shoals for a couple of hours. We finally managed enough for dinner- even though I knocked at least 10 off at the boat! All of you guys-Thanks for fishing with me- I enjoyed both trips!
